Medicare Publishes Infection Rates with Hospital Compare Tool

 |

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are now offering an innovative resource to help patients select quality hospital facilities with the Hospital Compare tool. This new feature on the Medicaid website provides detailed information about hospital-acquired infection rates at various healthcare facilities, in addition to detailed patient satisfaction feedback secured from previous hospital visitors.

This tool comes at a time where patients succumbing to hospital-acquired infections have dramatically increased, becoming the nation’s leading cause of death, according to a recent article from the National Journal. Medicare is taking positive steps to combat this issue with the Hospital Compare tool as it empowers consumers with information they need to make well-informed decisions about important healthcare treatments.

This process is used by primary care providers as well as specialists. It may take only a few minutes if the problem is simple and straightforward. On the other hand, it may take weeks in a patient who has been hospitalized with bizarre symptoms or multi system problems, with involvement by several specialists. Thanks. Regards, vancouver seo

It is quite interesting to read this article in lieu of reading an article written in the New York Times last week, regarding the same topic of patient satisfaction and Medicare reimbursements. In the New York Times article, Theresa Brown, an RN states that, “Hospitals aren’t hotels” and that it is nearly impossible to get an accurate satisfaction score when patients are often in unpleasant and painful situations during visits to the hospital. I think she raises an interesting point that seems quite obvious after reading the article. The individuals at Medicare should seriously consider revaluating their plan of action before October 2012. Or maybe they should just read the article. They could learn a thing or two from this woman! http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/15/opinion/hospitals-must-first-hurt-to-heal.html?_r=1
